With the first cold front of the season approaching, it’s just about fall in Houston. Sure it’ll waffle between 95° and 72° for a few more weeks, but we’re finally ready to adopt the fall trends that the rest of the country has been starting to experience. With the weather right, I wanted to highlight my favorite trends in fall plus size fashion!
Blazers, especially plaid
I have been seeing the longline plaid blazer everywhere and I’m obsessed. Paula Pell in that Old Navy back to school commercial was honestly style goals. I own the Old Navy one and can attest to how comfy it is. It looks like suiting fabric but actually it’s a soft knit so it wears like a cozy cardigan, and not a stiffer blazer.
Target has some great ones both in solid and plaid prints and the camel one is a personal fave of mine as it pairs great with the big fall colors this season.
I’ve included some more of my faves and you can shop all of them at this link.
Pumpkin spice food and beverages has been taking over for a few seasons now, but the burnt orange, pumpkin color is huge for clothing this fall. As a good Aggie, I’ve loved the last few seasons of abundant maroon clothes that have been available but even I can admit that the orange is great this year.
I recommend snapping up an orange corduroy skirt, a nice pumpkin colored blouse, or a jumpsuit to transition you into fall. These pieces can be layered with tights or a jacket for cooler climates, or worn without layers to allow you to feel like its fall when you’re still sweating outside.
Also think outside the neutrals! Orange pairs great with solid white, khaki, or brown, but also think about animal prints, green, or going full monochrome with mixed textures.
Speaking of animal prints, they are EVERYWHERE. I consider animal prints a neutral and there’s so many good ones for fall. I’ve seen a lot of leopard kimonos and sweaters and if animal prints haven’t been your thing in the past, a third piece like this 2fer would be a great way to try it.
Walmart last year had this high pile pullover that sold out so quickly, and they have it again this year and in more colors (SIX)!
None of those your thing? Old Navy is giving me strong Patagonia vibes with this patterned one, but at a fraction of the cost. (Also in buffalo plaid and solid)
The 70s and the 90s are both having a huge comeback right now. Target’s Wild Fable line is a great way to get seasonal 90s inspired clothing and the 70s vibes with white ankle boots, flared pants, and vintage patterns are everywhere.
Try checking out your local resale shop for timely pieces (and many of them support local charities) or if you don’t have the patience, try curated resale shops both in person and online. They’re a little more expensive, but they do the labor of finding high quality, trendy pieces and present you the best ones. @shop.fatties on Instagram is great for this!
I personally feel like I really peak in autumn. My hair looks better, I’m not sweaty, and my fall clothes are bangin’. Time to make this the best #fatgirlfall yet. Which trends did I miss? Let me know!
